Join our digital campaign and tell us what #TheFutureIs to you

Reimagine your future through video, art, and text.

It is an election year in South Africa, which means it is more important than ever for young people to make their voices heard.

We believe that all systems of oppression are connected. We cannot achieve climate justice without addressing intersecting systems of oppression – including racism, sexism, transphobia, classism, and ableism.

As we live through a time of many overlapping global crises and calls for justice, we believe that imagining a more just, collective future is more important now than ever. To dismantle systems of oppression, we need to imagine our alternatives. We need to articulate the futures we dream of.

This is why we are asking young people, from across Africa, to share what #TheFutureIs to them from 6 May to 28 June 2024.

Why are we sharing these visions for the future?

  • To show the power we have as young people

  • To create a mass message of the voices and experiences of young people, speaking truth to issues that are important to us.

  • To show the connection between our struggles

  • To build a sense of community and solidarity in sharing about the issues we are passionate about

  • To amplify youth voices and encourage decision-makers to give youth a real seat at the table

How can you take part in #TheFutureIs?

We encourage young people all over Africa to:

  • Attend the pre-launch event on 18 April 2024, where we will share more about the campaign and how you can take part. This event will include a mobile journalism workshop with Seen TV on how best to tell your stories and express your dreams for the future. You can watch the recording below.

  • Use this form to submit your visions for the future that we will share across our social media platforms: https://forms.gle/147NC3QXaVqGiQeu6

  • Once the campaign launches on 6 May 2024, use your social media platforms to post photos, videos, art, poetry, or words that visualise the future you believe in. Tag @africanclimatealliance and use the #TheFutureIs so that we can re-share your visions, and

  • Consider what is practically needed for the future you desire to be actualised, and make this call to action.

#TheFutureIs Mobile Journalism Workshop:

Do you want to learn how to tell powerful digital stories that share your visions for the future?

Watch the recording of our #TheFutureIs Mobile Journalism Workshop where we shared more information about our upcoming #TheFutureIs digital campaign, learnt all about how to use digital tools and our lived experiences to tell good stories about the climate crisis, and how to build our own social media filters to make our stories even more engaging.

You’ll be able to use these skills to take part in our #TheFutureIs digital campaign.

This online workshop will be held in collaboration with Nella Etkind, Head of Community at Seen TV
