African Climate Alliance is a youth-led grassroots organisation acting and advocating for Afrocentric Climate Justice. 
We are currently looking to fill the positions of Field Officer, Education & Adaptation Coordinator, and Administrative Assistant.

Title: Field Officer 

We are looking for a field officer on a 3 month contract to assist us with outreach and organisation of a big climate justice mobilisation taking place in Cape Town, South Africa. Someone passionate about social and environmental justice, with an aptitude for working with people of various backgrounds.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Experience working with civil society and/or community based organisations.  
  • Excellent people skills
  • The ability to work well individually and as part of a team
  • Is computer literate. Experience with google docs and slack advantageous. 
  • Fluency in multiple languages (isixhosa, english  and afrikaans) –  not essential but advantageous
  • Experience in prior organisation of actions or events – not essential but advantageous

 

Duration: short-term contract from August – October 2022, with possibility to extend based on funding and performance

Time commitment: 28 hours p/week. Flexi hours. Please note sometimes evening / weekend hours are required for event specific needs 

Monthly remuneration: R

Place of work: Work from home/virtual and co-working space in Mowbray Cape Town

Duties

The duties of this position are set out as follows. However the organisation will work on any subsequent material changes in consultation with the Field Officer. The Field Officer may also be required to perform other duties that may reasonably be expected of them within the Organisation from time to time.

  • Outreach to potential partner organisations and communities including forming and nurturing relationships
  • Bringing organisations, movements and community representatives movements into the organising process 
  • Responding to enquiries to organisations and individuals who want to be involved
  • Supporting organisations, movements and individuals to build climate justice literacy and grow support for the climate justice movement and action through: 
    • Working together and building solidarity across movements 
    • Workshops 
    • Access to resources
    • Regular communication
    • In person meetings
  • Reporting back on work completed and keeping documentation of outreach activities

Title: Administrative Assistant

We are looking for a young, vibrant, organised individual to join our team! Someone passionate about social and environmental justice, with an aptitude for managing daily administrative tasks and supporting a team through a diligent approach to organising and admin. 

Must have:

  • Experience in putting together and following administrative systems 
  • Excellent computer literacy 
  • Experience working with Google Drive, Zoom, Slack and is advantageous
  • An aptitude for spreadsheets, numbers and to-do lists 
  • Minute-taking skills 
  • Ability to work well individually and as part of a team

 

Duration: Fixed term contract from August 2022-July 2023, with option to extend based on funding. (Including a three month probationary period) 

Time commitment: 28 hours per week (4 hours a day flexi time) – please note sometimes evening / weekend hours are required for event specific needs

Monthly remuneration: R12 800 p/m

Place of work: Work from home/virtual office with occasional in-person check-ins (preferably based in Cape Town but other provinces will also be considered)

Duties

The duties of this position are set out as follows. However the organisation will work on any subsequent material changes in consultation with the Administrator. The Administrator may also be required to perform other duties that may reasonably be expected of them within the Organisation from time to time. 

  • Putting systems in place to optimize flow of administrative tasks 
  • Managing daily administrative tasks such as 
    • Filing 
    • Completing forms 
    • Diary management and arranging appointments, booking meeting rooms 
    • Managing expense claims and data requests
  • Managing budgets and transport requests for events and protests 
  • Working with the bookkeeper in needed tasks such as submitting expenses
  • Assisting with technical requirements for online zoom workshops and webinars 
  • Managing the team email address and informing the team of requests pertaining to their programme / person 
  • Keeping track of unresolved requests and creating reminders for the team
  • Assistance with managing databases for activist networks and reviewing network requests 
  • Assisting the team with administering project management tasks

We are looking for a young, vibrant and organised individual with a passion for education as a tool for change. Someone who has experience in developing curricula and resources that are accessible and engaging. Ideally the successful candidate would be passionate and well versed in topics surrounding social and environmental justice. 

Must have:

  • Experience in developing educational resources and curriculum 
  • Experience in holding and facilitating educational workshops or similar 
  • Demonstrable ability in drafting and designing accessible educational materials
  • Ability to research and deliver on the needs of the networks that the organisation serves 
  • Excellent computer literacy 
  • Experience working with Google Drive, Zoom, Slack and is advantageous
  • Ability to write and translate into multiple languages is advantageous
  • An aptitude to juggle multiple commitments and deliverables 
  • Ability to work well individually and as part of a team

 

Duration: Fixed term contract from August 2022-July 2023, with option to extend based on funding. (Including a three month probationary period) 

Time commitment: 28 hours p/week flexi time  (must be available during business hours for at least a few hours everyday) – please note evening / weekend hours are required for event specific needs

Monthly remuneration: R20000 p/m 

Place of work: Work from home/virtual office and Bertha House in Mowbray, Cape Town 

Duties

The duties of this position are set out as follows. However the organisation will work on any subsequent material changes in consultation with the Administrator. The Education Coordinator may also be required to perform other duties that may reasonably be expected of them within the Organisation from time to time.

  • Research and develop the socio-environmental/climate topics and curriculum and all components thereof for online workshops and dialogues, and in person sessions in collaboration with the programmes manager. 
  • Manage workshop logistics including registration, transport, data support, catering and communication in collaboration with the administrative assistant and programme manager 
  • Track and implement follow up communications and absorption plans to ensure growth and participation in the broader youth network as a result of workshops  
  • Meet regularly with programme implementation team to check on progress and assist in problem solving.
  • Research, develop and design digital and print educational materials for the resources page 
  • Assist other programs with their educational material needs (i.e educational workshops for the adaptation programme, educational tools for the ambassador programme and educational mobilization tools for the action programme)
